The definition of marriage and meaning of marriage are two different things that people need to understand. Legally, marriage means that the woman and man are bound to each other and they have to support each other, failing which there would be legal consequences which could be, therefore, rectified by divorce. In biblical terms, when the man and woman are married, they are bound with each other for a lifetime, and that is why they both take their vows in front of God. It literally means that for better or for worse, they will stand by each other.
In emotional terms, marriage means the joining of two hearts. When a couple falls in love and realizes they are really meant to be with each other, then they will get married and eternally belong to each other.
However, marriage is a complicated relationship which needs constant work. One of the people has to put in that much amount of work if they care about their marriage.
Expectations are only valid when you are considerate. Despite the legal definition and the religious definition of marriage at the end of it all what counts is the emotional definition.
Unless a person realizes that the marriage is meant for them, they will never work towards it.
