Teen life is quite turbulent time and parents have to understand the feelings of insecurity that go through the mind of a teenager. Teens are no longer children but neither are they adults and this is a difficult reality for them to accept. In addition, they bodies are going through multitude changes which most teens are clueless about and they do not know how to handle these changes.
Usually teen dating in our society is not accepted though it is quite normal for teens to date. Teen dating usually happen as group dates and they finish early; and parents find it easier to handle the teen dating scenario because they know where their children are and they can always go and pick them up after the date is over. It is the one-on-one teen dating that frightens parents and they do not know what to do as they are usually clueless about everything that is going on.
Parents have to realize that most teens are under tremendous peer pressure and many times teens resort to doing things because of this pressure. The correct thing would be to be honest with teens. Parents have to learn to communicate with their teens rather than ordering them because this stance would never work. Teens have to be educated on the potential dangers of making mistakes that they might regret for the rest of their lives. That is why a discussion has to take place.
Teen dating is prevalent in our society and we cannot control our children. We have to give them enough rope but always be around to help and assist them. Teen dating also helps teens to learn a lot of lessons that will come handy when they group. It is natural to be attracted to the opposite sex and teens should be guided through their teenage life rather than parents trying to lock them away. If you do try, you will bring out the worst in your teen.
Let your teen go on dates and learn to trust them while ensuring you have honest, frank and open communication with them. If they do end up in trouble, be there to help them rather than castigating them. You will have sufficient time for that later on.
